About us
Founded in 1971 in the territory of EUREGIO (Dutch-German border), the Association of European Border Regions promotes Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) and its added value to the European integration process, mainly by lobby-work as well as organisation of and participation in European CBC and Regional policy events.
Since the seventies, the AEBR has been directly involved in many initiatives at national, regional and European levels addressed to establish a more appropriate regulation of territorial cooperation in general, and cross-border in particular, as well as legal frameworks for cooperation between local and regional authorities in Europe, among other regional policy initiatives. There is a focus on the development of capacities in European border regions, particularly cross-border skills, and the organisation of activities in this regard.

Center for Balkans
In May 2014 the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) created the Centre for Balkans aiming to support cross-border cooperation, Euroregions and other cross-border structures in Balkan Region.
Our Mission
We believe that cross-border cooperation may be used as tool for strengthening cohesion across Europe and improving the everyday life of all of us. Also, we believe that today’s young people are the leaders of tomorrow.
As an ongoing mission to empower our community’s AEBR Center for Balkans provides a nurturing environment for cross-border enthusiast to reach and fulfill their potential.
